Role

Who You Are

We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Street Works Permit Officer to coordinate and assess street and road works permits in line with the NRSWA and permit scheme requirements. You should have experience in street works, highways, or permit schemes, coupled with a good knowledge of NRSWA, permit schemes, and associated legislation. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with confidence in using IT systems and managing competing priorities.

What the Job Involves

The Street Works Permit Officer will be responsible for assessing and managing permit applications and variations. You will ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice, and national permit conditions. A key part of your role will be liaising with utility companies, contractors, and internal teams to ensure effective communication and compliance. The role will require you to spend two days in the office and three days working remotely.

Skills

  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and codes of practice
  • Proficiency in assessing permit applications and traffic management plans
  • Competence in using highway asset management and IT systems
  • Decision-making and independent working abilities
  • Experience in liaising with public, Council Members, and third parties
  • Ability to provide specialist advice for street work related issues
  • Proficiency in preparing advice and evidence for insurance claims and court proceedings
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to provide advice in accurate spoken English
