Commercial Vehicle Technician (Level 3) (Grade H)

Who You Are

• Possess an NVQ 3 Heavy Motor Vehicle qualification or equivalent.
• Recognized as a Qualified Commercial Vehicle Inspector with VOSA accreditation.
• Experience as a Nominated Tester for MoT Class 4 to 7 testing.
• Hold a current vocational LGV Category C driving licence.
• Intermediate skills in welding and/or motor vehicle electrical work.
• Proficient with computer systems like Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, with strong numeracy and administration skills.
• Efficient time management skills, capable of working independently in a team setting.
• Strict adherence to Health & Safety guidelines and maintaining high performance standards.

What the Job Involves

• Maintain and repair the council’s fleet, including plant maintenance, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
• Perform inspections and testing of vehicles and plant equipment to meet council standards.
• Diagnose and repair faults, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and safe.
• Conduct MoT testing and liaise with the public for bookings, recording, and processing payments accurately.
• Assist in managing the transport workshop’s administrative and IT operational support tasks.
• Recommend and requisition replacement parts promptly to minimize downtime.
• Offer roadside assistance, off-site repairs, and provide cost estimations for repairs.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and council’s procedures.
• Work a split shift system and provide standby cover on a rotational basis.
• Develop and maintain expertise through continuous training and support for colleagues.
• Contribute to the council’s continuous improvement culture and promote cost-effective services.
